The New York garage rock icons (now mostly LA locals) played the historic Hollywood Bowl on October 6th, a week after the release of their first new album in nine years, the short-but-sweet Cool It Down. After great opening sets from local teens The Linda Lindas and Philly’s Japanese Breakfast–making up a trio of bands led by Asian American women–YYYs kicked off their set with their new single, “Spitting off the Edge of the World.” Perfume Genius, who provides guest vocals on the track, joined the band onstage. From there, it was a parade of crowd-pleasing favorites like “Maps,” “Gold Lion,” “Cheated Hearts,” and “Zero,” alongside most of the new record. The closing encore feature the Linda Lindas and Japanese Breakfast joining in for a cover of “Kids in America,” before the YYYs closed it out with Fever to Tell‘s “Date with the Night.” Check out photos from all three sets…
